When to go

Best time to visit Maldives

Maldives weather varies across the atolls and from year to year. The Maldives Meteorological Service identifies January to March as the dry northeast-monsoon season, December and April as transition months, and mid-May to November as the wetter southwest-monsoon period.

Rain and sunshine are both possible outside those labels. Match your month to the trip you want, check forecasts near departure, and keep weather-dependent excursions flexible. A wet-season trip does not guarantee either a lower price or only short showers.

Where to stay

Beach villa or water villa?

We match the stay to your style - these are the shapes, not fixed picks.

Island landscape, Maldives

Beach villa

Consider this if you prefer direct beach access. Check the exact villa layout, position and facilities; a private pool is not automatic.

Island and lagoon, Maldives

Water villa

Consider this if an overwater stay is part of your honeymoon idea. Check lagoon access, privacy, room facilities and the property's safety rules. Glass floors, floating breakfasts and pools are not standard in every villa.

Island and ocean, Kaafu Atoll, Maldives

Split villa stay

A beach-and-water-villa split may offer variety within one resort. Confirm both room categories, the number of nights in each, and how the room change works in the final quote.

Transfers and meal plans matter

Your chosen resort determines the available transfer route. It may involve a speedboat, seaplane, or domestic flight plus boat, so choose the stay and international flight timing together.

Trans Maldivian Airways says its seaplanes operate from sunrise to sunset. For a TMA transfer, its current guidance recommends arriving in the Maldives by 15:30 local time for a same-day resort connection. Confirm the actual transfer cutoff with the resort/operator before booking; weather and operational changes can affect the journey.

Check whether transfers, meals, drinks, activities and taxes are included. Read the precise meal-plan terms instead of assuming “all-inclusive” covers every restaurant or experience.

Sample journeys for the two of you

Start with the length that fits you. These are unpriced planning ideas, not confirmed packages. Flights, stays, transfers, weather and availability decide the final plan. Days include arrival and departure. Experiences are optional and subject to suitability and the final quote.

4 days / 3 nights

A short island pause

One resort, same villa category throughout

See the day-by-day idea
  1. Day 1: Arrive and transfer on the confirmed route. Settle into the island.
  2. Day 2: Time for the beach or villa, with optional snorkelling if suitable.
  3. Day 3: Another slow day; consider one resort-offered experience if available.
  4. Day 4: Check out and transfer around the international departure.

For a short stay, choose the resort and transfer around actual flight timing. No promise of a same-night seaplane connection.

6 days / 5 nights

Settle into your island rhythm

One resort throughout

See the day-by-day idea
  1. Day 1: Arrive and transfer on the confirmed route. Keep plans light.
  2. Day 2: A relaxed island day, with optional snorkelling or spa time.
  3. Day 3: Enjoy the beach or villa; consider a resort-offered sandbank outing if available and conditions allow.
  4. Day 4: Keep room for an optional cruise or private dining from the resort's actual choices.
  5. Day 5: A full day for the stay itself, or one more chosen experience.
  6. Day 6: Check out and transfer around the confirmed flight.

Beach/water-villa split can be requested within the resort, subject to confirmed categories and availability. It is not assumed in this card.

8 days / 7 nights

A longer stay, fewer decisions

One resort throughout

See the day-by-day idea
  1. Day 1: Arrive and transfer on the confirmed route.
  2. Day 2: Settle into the beach or villa without a packed schedule.
  3. Day 3: Optional snorkelling or a resort experience if suitable.
  4. Day 4: Leave a day open for two. If a split-villa stay is confirmed, this can be the room-change day.
  5. Day 5: Consider an optional cruise or sandbank outing if offered and conditions allow.
  6. Day 6: Villa time, optional spa or a chosen dining experience.
  7. Day 7: A final full island day, with plans kept flexible.
  8. Day 8: Check out and transfer around the confirmed flight.

A longer stay is not an automatic multi-island itinerary. Confirm room changes and the final quote before booking.

Transfer route and flight timing must be checked together. TMA seaplanes operate in daylight; confirm the chosen operator/resort's cutoff. Villa amenities and activities vary, with no guaranteed inclusions.

Good to know

Maldives, answered

How many nights should we plan?

Five to seven nights is a planning starting point for an unhurried resort stay, not a rule. Choose the length around your flights, budget and how much island time you want.

Beach villa or water villa?

Choose based on how you want to spend your days and the exact room. Direct beach access, deck privacy, pool facilities and lagoon access vary. A split stay can be requested, subject to availability.

Is the Maldives only for honeymoons?

No. Couples can consider it for an anniversary or a trip together too. Match the resort atmosphere and stay style to your occasion.

Do Indian travellers need to arrange a visa in advance?

Maldives Immigration says tourists do not need visa pre-approval and can be granted a visa on arrival, subject to entry requirements. These include an eligible passport, confirmed return tickets, prepaid accommodation at a registered facility and sufficient funds, alongside applicable health requirements. Check passport validity for your airline, transit route and destination. Entry is not guaranteed.

The official IMUGA portal requires the free Traveller Declaration within 96 hours before the flight time for arrival. Use the official portal and recheck the instructions before travel.

What should we check in a Maldives quote?

The named resort and villa category, nights, transfers and connection timing, meal plan, taxes, included activities, exclusions and cancellation terms. There are no fixed prices on this site because dates and choices change the quote.
